What if the movements we take for granted stopped working?

Taking a step. Sending a message. Holding a cup of coffee.

For most of us, these actions happen automatically. For people living with Parkinson’s disease, they can require focus, control and effort.

World Parkinson’s Day, observed every year on 11 April, raises awareness of Parkinson’s disease and its impact on everyday life. In 2026, the official message highlights the need to bridge the care gap – because for many people affected by Parkinson’s, accessing the right support and information remains a challenge even after diagnosis.

Parkinson’s is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases worldwide. It affects how the brain controls movement and can lead to symptoms such as slowness, stiffness or tremor. While there is still no cure, treatment and support can help people stay active and maintain quality of life. Raising awareness therefore also means improving understanding and strengthening access to coordinated care.

To mark World Parkinson’s Day, Sebastian Renz, Business Unit Head Neurology at STADA, explains how Parkinson’s disease affects movement and why awareness and understanding remain essential:

At STADA, Caring for People’s Health means supporting access to reliable therapies and improving understanding of conditions that shape people’s everyday lives. On World Parkinson’s Day, we stand with everyone affected and support the call to bridge the care gap.
